Chris and Shelby’s wedding at BOK in South Philly was anything but ordinary. For starters, BOK is not your typical wedding venue—it’s a former technical high school turned creative hub, where classrooms have become workshops and the gym doubles as a dreamy reception space. Shelby kicked off the day in the wedding suite, transforming from laid-back bride to total knockout. The two shared their first look in the auditorium—a moment made even better by a surprise visit from their dog, who managed to steal a little of the spotlight (and everyone’s hearts). From there, we wandered the building for portraits, hitting some of our favorite spots, like the “botanical sink” (yes, it’s as cool as it sounds) and those old-school lockers that somehow feel oddly romantic.

The rooftop was the next stop, and honestly, it’s worth the trip for the view alone. The Philly skyline stretched out in the distance, offering the perfect backdrop for Shelby’s stunning bouquet of rich sunset hues and Chris’s quiet, steady grin. The ceremony took place back in the theater, where BOK’s gritty charm met the couple’s impeccable style. Picture this: cascading florals in bold purples, oranges, and yellows spilling over the stage, soft candlelight glowing along the floor, and a live band complete with a cellist to set the mood. It was equal parts grand and intimate, with just the right amount of South Philly flair.

When it came time to party, the gymnasium was unrecognizable—Pampas and Poppy Co. had transformed it into a colorful masterpiece. Bud vases lined the tables, paper lanterns floated overhead, and a disco ball anchored the space, scattering light like tiny stars. The dance floor, with its hanging flowers and lanterns, felt like stepping into another world. And let’s not forget the chalkboard signage, a playful nod to BOK’s schoolhouse roots. The seating chart, made with brightly colored Post-it notes, was both fun and functional, while the bar menu’s soft rainbow hues were an unexpected visual treat. It was a reminder that weddings don’t have to follow any rules to be absolutely unforgettable.

Chris and Shelby opted for a small cake and a dessert table instead of going the traditional towering confection route, which fit the laid-back but thoughtful vibe of the day. The speeches were equal parts hilarious and heartfelt, with more than a few tear-jerking moments (the good kind, obviously). As the night went on, the dance floor came alive, and it was clear that everyone—from their oldest friends to their youngest cousins—was there to celebrate this perfect match.
