What can we say? It was a phenomenal day. So much joy! Swirling, dancing, drumming.  It was a hot day, real hot. It was the Indian-wedding-party-day preceding Nishalil and Jeremy’s wedding (in which the heat was replaced by the biggest deluge we have ever witnessed. by far). But that story is for tomorrow.

On this day, we witnessed our first baraat; Jeremy rode in on a white horse (the horse also bedecked in finery) accompanied by a hundred dancing, clapping friends. When he arrived and Nishali’s smiling face looked up at him (she was so beautiful), she was lifted up into the air so that she could place a garland around his neck. Jeremy then reciprocated with a garland for Nishali. The moment felt so regal, so timeless.

On this night, we witnessed our first dandiya stick dance. To fully appreciate the enthusiasm and energy that radiates from this traditional folk dance, you have to be there. Lots of spinning and stick tapping and some serious stamina.

Thank you, Nishali and Jeremy, for choosing us to document your wedding. We felt so thoroughly welcomed and embraced by your family and friends. It was an awesome, awesome experience. More to come tomorrow, but here’s the first day of your wedding weekend…
