A Backyard, Black Tie Wedding:
Nishali + Jeremy

You wouldn’t know it looking at these sunny pictures, but Nishali and Jeremy’s wedding reception was almost washed away. Short story – it rained so hard during the first dance and through the toasts that the dance floor flooded, generators shorted out and the edge tables were soaked. My point in even mentioning the deluge is twofold:

1) No matter what unexpected event happens, your wedding is still going to be great. Besides, it’s often the unexpected moments that create the most unforgettable memories. When the storm did hit, lights went out and water came up. Sheets of rain (really, I have never seen anything like it) and gusty wind created such havoc that tables had to be moved inwards and tall centerpieces taken down so they didn’t blow over. It was so incredibly loud under the tent that people had to surround the bride & groom’s table to hear the toasts (we’re talking a couple-hundred person huddle). But until I went to write this blog post, I’d almost forgotten all of that. The day was so great! Once the rain sank into the earth and the dance floor was squeegeed, the night went on as if nothing had happened (besides all those long dresses tied up in knots to keep them dry). And it was fun! We’d all survived, a little wet, but no worse for the wear.  So. Whatever happens on your wedding day, roll with it. All that matters is that you’re with your honey and everyone you love. Note: no one had to remind Nishali and Jeremy of this which impressed us to no end.

2) Hire a wedding planner. Kristin Polhemus and her team at Reverie Events were indispensable. Half of the chaos that the storm caused, guests didn’t even know about. Reverie took care of things quietly and efficiently. Having an experienced planner made the difference between having to end their reception just as it was getting started or having the party going on all night as if nothing happened.

The funny thing is, you’ll look at these pictures and you won’t see a drop of rain. During the crazy downpour, we photographed the first dance, rescued our camera bags from the 6 inches of water they were floating in, and then photographed the toasts. The show must go on!

It was a gorgeous, sunny wedding with a rainy intermission and a perfect grand finale (the most dramatic we’ve seen…Chinese lanterns floating up into the night sky). Here’s to a great story Nishali and Jeremy will always have to share. Cheers!
